nce Upon A Time there was a spontaneous girl, Barbara from Germany, who lived happily with her husband and two children in Cape Town.
One day she decided to take a break from her
daily chores to explore the West Coast and
found herself at the foothills of St Helena
Bay. It was a beautiful sunny day in spring,
the veld was covered with a carpet of flowers
and the view from the top of Britannica
Heights seemed to go on forever. The
untouched beauty and clean country air
took her breath away and her heart leapt.
It was love at first sight.
Without so much as a second thought our heroine of this tale there and then bought the ground on which she was standing - a 1,5 Ha smallholding and soon to be their new holiday home. Over a picnic lunch on this very terrain a week later her skeptical family soon agreed that they wouldn't find such a special place anywhere else in the world and they decided to build a little cottage. It was the first dwelling on Britannica Heights and was intended as a weekend getaway - or so they thought then.
Eleven years later Barbara and Meyer are
still marvelling at their luck in discovering
this corner of paradise. After having created
a beautiful garden with over 200 trees, they
built Country Cabin, a self-catering cottage
where they welcome visitors from every
corner of the earth who come to experience
the best of both worlds: country living &
unparalleled panoramic views of the sea.
A perfect getaway for two, Country Cabin is tastefully decorated with Barbara's wonderfully refreshing and lively paintings. "Many a visitor has left toting an artwork under his arm that he couldn't resist buying," says Barbara. "Each painting has a piece of my soul in it, but each one has to find a home where it satisfies the soul of someone else," she says. That is how her creativity and inspiration stays fresh.
